The White Lotus S2: A Deep Dive into Sicilian-Chic Decor & Design
“Live for beauty,” Tanya McQuoid-Hunt sighs in episode 5 of The White Lotus Season 2, and the show’s sumptuous Sicilian setting answers with a resounding yes. Set at the historic Four Seasons San Domenico Palace Taormina—once a 14th-century convent turned 19th-century Villa Sant’Andrea—the season’s design weds mythology and modernity. The Volarre team set out to discover how production designer Cristina Onori layered centuries-old techniques, regional textiles, and narrative props to craft a world as compelling as the mystery itself.

Lobby Lounging: Citrus, Limewash & Moor’s Heads
Cristina Onori sourced authentic teste di moro (Moor’s head) vases from Sicilian artisans to foreshadow the season’s ominous promise. We recreated the light walls, brushed in Sherwin-Williams SW 7701 Pumice Limewash over Venetian plaster, shimmer with coastal patina. At center stage, the a fabric wood base sofa is clad in GOTS-certified performance linen, while jewel-toned velvet cushions and brocade silk pillow covers reference handloomed 18th-century damasks. A sturdy solid oak coffee table adds rustic grain, while a sculptural beehive pendant echoes Norman-Moorish geometry.

Season 2’s interiors weave together Norman-Moorish tilework, Baroque plaster niches, and neoclassical serliana arches—each layer echoing Sicily’s palimpsest of cultures. Hand-painted damask motifs nod to 18th-century frescoes, while curated antiques anchor the story in timeless grandeur.

Suite Serenity: Linen, Loops & Local Relics
“The environment is like a character,” says creator Mike White. In the guest suite, the textured off-white sofa wears artisan-washed linen, and a swiveling quill barrel chair channels Venice’s baroque salons. Pillows—european floral pillow, seafoam embroidered pillow, a euro damask pillow—layer Venetian damasks, Palermo embroidery, and New York florals. Above, the chrome cresent display unit holds a pastel aristocratic portrait, a resin ballerina sculpture, alabaster perfume bottles from Lipari, and pineapple finials signaling welcome.

Bathing in Baroque: Tadelakt & Teste di Moro
Vaulted ceilings showcase tadelakt techniques—Moroccan plaster polished with olive soap—blended with Venetian stucco. The clawfoot tub draped in a damask throw blanket, its intricate damask recalling Sicilian church frescoes. Above, a cascading romantic chandelier illuminates Rococo moldings. Nearby, the plush tufted fabric barrel chair offers sanctuary, and a carved wooden side table displays the lifelike grace of a wax head sculpture.
